A couple of months ago I began transitioning into a new role at Turbonomic on the Marketing team, which I’m so thrilled to take on. As the Corporate Event Manager for 2 ½ years prior to this new position, I wasn’t fully ready to give up all the event responsibility… so I took over the planning of our marketing team outings to make up for it!
Our outings in the past have been a blast: dinners out, movie nights, game days, escape rooms, etc. but when I started brainstorming, I couldn’t help but think about doing something during the holiday season that would make the team as a whole feel filled with gratefulness by giving back to the community. With all the negative things going on in our world today, I knew taking a half day from work and volunteering would be a great experience for everyone. This is how a team outing led to giving back to our community.
Cradles to Crayons
After surveying a few people on the team, I decided to move forward with planning a half day volunteer session at a local nonprofit and then dinner and drinks for the team afterward. I had worked with the Cradles2Crayons program in the past and reached out to see if they would have any openings for us to help out at their factory in Brighton, MA. Sure enough, they had one volunteer shift open right before Thanksgiving. Perfect, off we went!
Upon arrival at the C2C factory, our team was split into groups: Lifting & moving boxes, sorting toys and organizing children’s clothing from donation bins. We were there for 2 hours and packed approximately 60 clothing packs for children in need! Our team is always smiling and having a good time at work, but this day sent our happiness through the roof. The day was a wonderful reminder of what the holiday season is truly about and working for a company that supports and enables volunteering is one of the many reasons why I am at Turbonomic. I’m grateful that being part of #TurboNation enables us to take the opportunities to do these outings if we put the passion behind the idea.
