In the fifth part of our series, we talk to DeVaughn Riley, who has been at Turbonomic for 1 year and 6 months. Read below to learn all about his journey!
What is your role here at Turbonomic?
I’m a Sales Engineer for the Commercial Team - I run demos for new users within our customer base and for prospective customers, helping them install the product, and teaming up with Account Executives to prove out the technical win in our proof of concepts.
What brought you to Turbo?
Fresh out of college I knew I was interested in sales, I didn’t know what it would entail until a former football teammate of mine, Nick Joseph, who also works here, told me about the SE position and the company direction. I came in to interview and I loved the team and the culture and was excited to join as a SDR!
What is your most memorable moment at Turbo?
My most memorable moment is my first Thanksgiving lunch at Turbonomic. It was a different way to come together and talk about what people were thankful for.
Who is your biggest inspiration or mentor at Turbo?
My inspiration is Gerry Sengendo, and he has also acted as a mentor for me. He’s one of those people that if you’re willing to work hard, he is open to helping you. I credit him for me being a good engineer and to this day, I continue to learn from him about not only being a good engineer, but also a good seller. He reminds me of coaches I have had in the past who were more than just teachers, they also cared about where I would be in the future.
If you weren’t in your current role, what is another team you would like to be a part of?
The People Team in a recruiting role - I think I have gotten a good feel of the type of personality that is needed to be successful here. I also would love to put myself in a position to meet with people from diverse backgrounds and talk about my time at Turbonomic to make them feel more comfortable.
What is your favorite thing about having an open concept office?
I think it inspires teamwork and makes it easy for me to reach over to someone to ask a question when I am on a call, ask about an opportunity, or a customer or prospect issue that may come up.
Do you have any pets?
I have a cat named Sapphire, I have had her for 10 years.
What is your favorite lunch spot around the office?
Chicken and Rice Guys every Tuesday and Wednesday
What is the best way to spend a PTO day?
Traveling to see one of my friends across the country.
Favorite Turbo perk?
The corporate membership at Boston Sports Club.
Italy – I used to study Italian and Latin so Roman culture and history excites me.
